SIGIL VARIATIONS
Tape Recorder, Dreamachine, Surgical and Photcopier Sigils

TAPE RECORDER SIGILS

For little more than a regular cassette, you can buy special looped-tapes for answering machines. They come in a variety ov time-spans: 10 sec, 30 sec, 60 sec, 3 mins etc. And these tapes can be nicely used for recording mantras or sigils to be played back during ritual or meditation. They can also be played during sleep.

For a cut/up sigil, try recording a spoken desire onto 1/4 inch tape and cutting it up. Re-assemble as a loop. (This could then be recorded onto thee answering-machine tape for convenience). If you don't have access to a ¼ inch revox, another way to do thee cut/up is to repeat thee words over and over whilst randomly pressing and releasing thee pause button during recording- eventually you will have a continuous loop ov your sigil/mantra cut up on your loop cassette.

Some tape recorders will stop when they reach thee leader-tape, which can also be helpful to creating a more continuous loop. Use a watch if necessary to time your mantra/sigil.

Play this cut/up desire tape during your sigil/ritual for full effect. These tapes can be kept as records: use them as mistress documents. Or record thee entire ritual from another recorder for a mistress tape, and re-use thee loop-tape. Each time you record onto thee tape, previous sigils are played underneath thee current one (if not literally, then at least figuratively!), resulting in a 'snowball' effect. Not only is thee potential talismanic property ov thee tape maximised, but every sigil is cumulative and reinforced each time thee tape is played.

This technique is similar to thee one described in "TV MAGICK" for video use during ritual. Try playing your video for thee sigil/ritual as usual, but record your tape loop onto one ov thee audio channels. Video thee rite with thee pre-recorded video playing on a monitor in view ov thee camera. Doing this will create a cumulative audio and video effect ov all your rituals.

If you don't have access to video cameras etc, you can try a similar technique with tape recorders. You will need 3 tape recorders and three cassettes: one loop-tape and two C90s or C120s.

Play thee current sigil looped and/or cut/up tape on tape recorder A. Play any previous sigils recorded cumulatively on a C90/120 on tape recorder B (this tape will be blank thee first time you do this experiment). Record thee entire ritual on tape recorder C (on thee other C90/120). If possible, record thee looped-tape directly onto one channel ov tape recorder C. In thee next ritual/sigil/meditation, swap thee cassettes in tape recorders B and C. In doing this, you are adding thee current ritual to any previous ones, alternating between thee 2 tapes.

Using this technique, one (arguably) increases thee talismanic and cumulative effect on all three tapes, as they are used in every sigil. You may find it best to use new tapes at some stage (every 23 times, say), but thee recordings can be trance-ferred onto thee new cassette(s) to maintain thee cumulative effects.

Another technique is to record thee sigil desire (which need not be cut/up or turned into a mantra) on one channel ov a cassette at a low level. On thee other channel record at a higher level anything you like (a story etc). By directing your attention to this track during playback, thee sigil is not consciously noticed and bypasses that faculty. Alternatively, one could play a sigil tape whilst listening to thee radio, or watching television. Or anywhere, so long as it is at a level lower than thee environmental sounds. This technique is sometimes called "waking suggestion".

DREAMACHINE SIGILS

Another technique is to prepare a DM specially for a particular sigil. Write or draw thee sigil on thee inside ov thee tube, and watch as usual. Perhaps thee subtle change in thee refraction ov light is imprinted in your mind. Or if thee DM is only used in thee background, then perhaps thee shadows on thee walls are discretely affected- and thee sigil is consciously imperceptible. Viewing thee DM with eyes open may induce a form ov "subliminal suggestion", only thee suggestion is yours!

A different DM tube could be used for each sigil, and destroyed/disposed ov as with any other sigil; or you could try using thee tube repeatedly for a cumulative effect (although this may diminish thee potency ov each successive rite, in which case another more focussed method ov sigilising may be layered onto thee rite). Try other (sexual?) sigil techniques with thee DM. Thee DM can be peripheral or central, depending upon personal taste/appropriateness. You may find that thee more elements and modes ov sigilising you apply at once, thee greater thee result. Or it may just be distracting!

Try different (corresponding) coloured globes ov different intensities. These can enhance DM colours. Contrasting colours on thee inside and outside ov thee DM tube is also quite effective in maximising thee effect. Experiment!

SURGICAL SIGILS

Got an annoying mole? Wart? Gall stone? Ulcer? Then why not turn it to good, practical use?! Lets say you have a mole to use. Thee process is fairly simple: turn up to thee local surgery, lie down on a table, get a local anaesthetic, have a pound ov flesh surgically removed and get sewn up. In a week or two, go back to have thee stitches removed (or do this yourself if you like- just pull on one end and they slide out easily. NB: E take no

For those convinced on thee need to achieve 'gnosis', thee journey to thee surgery is like entering a new reality, literally- like a journey into thee depths ov thee astral. So if it is your usual practice to remove yourself from thee 'mundane' and enter a magickal Zone or state, then this is a perfect opportunity for you (unless, ov course, you are a regular patron, a hypochondriac or some other horrible beast, in which case thee visit to thee surgery will be a perverse homecoming...).

Thee sigil is charged during thee (temporary and mild) pain ov thee anaesthetic injection. Your body is opened up to thee 'outside' world- direct contact between microcosm and macrocosm. Thee old flesh is sent away for analysis (if results are positive, thee operation has only been partially successful and a further attempt will be required), but thee talismanic scar remains, a symbol ov your desire, lost to all but thee deepest ov consciousnesses! "This is my body, this is my desire".

Ov course, this opens up possibilities ov magickal applications to all forms ov surgery- most ov which involve some intense moment/sensation, during which time thee lodging ov a sigil can occur. Thee imagery and symbolism ov surgery is obvious.

A more extreme application ov thee technique would be to draw or tattoo thee sigil somewhere on your body (it would need to be fairly small). Then have this piece ov flesh surgically removed- try a skin graft for really big sigils! This is a more complete use ov thee concept, with stronger symbolic, mental and physical impact. But try explaining that to your local G.P. . . .

PHOTOCOPIER SIGILS

Newer sigils copied onto previous sigils form layers ov desire, polyvocal and multiple. Also, previous successes are built into thee sigil, thus giving it momentum and encouragement! Thee more sigils layered onto each other, thee more ambiguous they become, fading further into thee 'background'- once black and white, now grey. Thee distinctions become blurred- between sigils, between desires, between will. Thus all intent is integrated into a mutating multidimensional magickal synthesis!

Collage is also a direct way ov dislocating perceptual/symbolic codes and redirecting them towards personal empowerment. This concept forms one ov thee drives behind surrealism. Thee surrealistic collage can become a map ov desire, a visual embodiment ov Will incarnate. This is especially relevant to modes ov advertising and methods ov thee press. Newspaper headlines can be created by you for you, telling ov some extraordinary magickal achievements! Make a sigil for your sigils. Advertise yourself. Advertise your desires. Glossy magazine cut/ups reinscribe their effects and results. Sure, use thee techniques ov advertising, news rhetoric etc. Just make thee objects ov desire more personal, more relevant, more YOU. Scopophilia could become narcissistic and form a power-loop rather than a power-sucking vampire. Thee possibilities are just beginning to unfold!
